Delano Jazz Orchestra
Director: Bill Johnson
The Delano Jazz Orchestra is an 18 member jazz Big Band featuring some of the Wichita areas finest jazz musicians. The Delano Jazz Orchestra is ready for a wonderful 2025-2026 season. The music chosen for the season will feature many of the great Jazz Big Band classics as well as some very contemporary compositions. The Delano jazz Orchestra is one of the finest Big Band Jazz ensembles in the region.
Most of the members of the ensemble are current or retired Jazz educators and professional musicians. The 2025-2026 season of the Jazz Orchestra will feature music from the contemporary jazz library as well as classic Big Band tunes. Pat Methany;s Minuano 6/8 is a contemporary chart written with very modern harmonies and rhythms. The Magic Flea and Midnight Freight are from the Count Basie Big Band. We will feature our lead trumpet player, George Naylor, on Doc Severinson's Begin the Beguine and trombonist's Randy Crow and Joe Clements on Baroque'n'Bones. These are great features. We will also be programming Whiplash from the Don Ellis Band and Gonna Fly Now from the Maynard Ferguson Band. This is just a taste. There is much more to hear. If you are a big band lover, we know you will find something to like in our concert programs.
