Delano Jazz Orchestra
Director: Bill Johnson
The Delano Jazz Orchestra 2026-2027 Season promises to be a very exciting one. We begin the year with at concert at Valley Center High School featuring jazz drummer and composer Allen Carter. This is part of our Jazz Legacy series where we bring in a professional artist to do a clinic and concert with an area high school as well as the Delano Jazz Orchestra. Concert is set for Tuesday, October 20 at Valley Center High School.
On October 25 the Jazz Orchestra will feature Allen Carter in a Concert at The District Church. Allen has written several great jazz charts for big band and it will be fun to play them alongside the composer. This Concert is at 3:00pm At The District Church.
On January 24, 2027 we start the new year with a concert at The District Church. We will feature our lead trumpet player George Naylor on the concert. George did a great job on Doc Severinson's Begin The Beguine last year that we wanted to do it again. The concert is at 3:00pm.
On Friday, February 26, 2027 The band will play a concert at The state Kansas Music Educators Convention at Century II. The band was chosen by audition and we are privileged and honored to play for our fellow Music Educators. The concert is at 1:00pm.
Our final concert of the year is on Sunday, April 18, 2027. The music and a possible guest artist has not yet been decided. Rest assured it will be more of the great big band standards and classics we are known for.
